From the bright lights of Hollywood to the riches of Rodeo Drive, the highlights of the City of Angels will be revealed on a morning sightseeing tour. Spend the afternoon at leisure and perhaps take a stroll along the Walk of Fame, or enjoy a spot of people watching at a local cafe or restaurant you never know who you might see! B
Enjoy a day in the beautiful grounds of The Huntington, founded in 1919 by railway magnate Henry E. Huntington. You’ll be free to explore the exquisite gardens which encompass 120 acres and include rose, desert, Japanese and Chinese displays. There’s also an art collection and extensive library on site. B
Los Angeles-Santa Barbara
Board an Amtrak train this morning and admire the passing coastal scenery on a memorable journey to Santa Barbara. After disembarking, travel to the Best Western Plus Peppertree Inn (4Q) for a two-night stay. The rest of the day is free for you to spend at leisure you may be tempted to visit one of the wineries in downtown Santa Barbara or opt for a little R&R on the beach. B
Step back to the era of the Franciscan monks on a visit to the Santa Barbara Mission which was founded in 1786. Set within 13 acres overlooking the sea, the beautiful church facade, mausoleum and museum offer a fascinating insight into this era. Continue to Santa Barbara Botanic Gardens which features over 1,000 different plants species with a focus on native species, such as the Californian seaside daisy and wild lilac. B
After a morning spent at leisure, it will be time to board Amtrak’s Coast Starlight train for a scenic journey to Monterey. On arrival, transfer to the Casa Munras Hotel and Spa (4Q) for a two-night stay. B
Look forward to following the 17 Mile Drive today which is famous for its rugged coastal scenery, sweeping golf courses and stunning ocean-front mansions. Highlights on this circular route include the Lone Cypress, Bird Rock and 5,300-acre Del Monte cypress forest. You’ll pause around lunchtime in Carmel, home to the rich and famous, before returning to Monterey. This afternoon, perhaps visit historic Cannery Row, now a hub for stylish restaurants and upmarket boutiques, and the Old Fisherman’s Wharf be sure to sample the local salt-water taffy and clam chowder if you get the chance. Look forward to following Highway One, declared an All-American Road, en route to San Francisco where you’ll spend your final three nights at the Park 55 (4Q) in Union Square. B
See such iconic sights as Chinatown, the Twin Peaks and, of course, the soaring struts of the Golden Gate Bridge during a morning guided tour. We’ve left the afternoon wide open for you to explore independently. Perhaps board a tram from a stop right outside your hotel and head down to the Fisherman’s Wharf where you can spy Alcatraz across the bay and may see dozing sea lions on Pier 39. B

Visit the Napa Valley whose fertile flanks are swathed with vineyards thanks to its favourable microclimate. You’ll spend time aboard a vintage train before a vineyard tour offers the perfect excuse to sample some of California’s remarkable wines.
