Ceuta, Spain

Berth in the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta where you can enjoy an incredible walking tour of this unique Iberian enclave. First inhabited in the 5th century BC, the city, which is of great strategic and trading importance, has forever been the subject of territorial disputes, hence its astonishing fortifications and navigable motes. Greek mythology identifies Ceutas Monte Hacho as one of the pillars of Hercules, along with Gibraltar. From here you can pop into Morocco to see Ttouans UNESCO-listed medina where traditional craftsmen still work and ply their wares.

Oran, Algeria

Visit Algerias second city, Oran, which is a melting pot of European and North African culture and birthplace of Rai folk music. For a splendid overview of the city, walk up Mount Murdjadjo to Fort Santa Cruz, an Ottoman citadel rebuilt by the Spanish, or wander through neighbourhoods of crumbling French-colonial grandeur to the ancient Sidi el Houari district. Alternatively, at the Ahmend Zabana National Museum you can learn about the countries struggle for independence.

Barcelona is a true gem of a city, brimming with 2,000 years of incredible architecture, from Roman towers to Catalan modernism masterpieces by the likes of Gaudi. In 2016, Casa de les Punxes, an icon of Catalan Modernism at the heart of the citys art nouveau district, opened its doors to the public for the first time in 100 years. After you have explored the many delights of the city enjoy a cocktail at Casa de les Punxes dubbed The House of Spikes and learn more about the myth of St George, the patron saint of the city.

Valencia, Spain

The rich history of Valencia, which dates back to its founding in 138 BC, makes it the most popular tourist destination in Spain, with over 420 acres of historic centre to discover. During its evolution, it has acquired many traditions and festivals, including Fallas, of which the traditional Valencian paella is an integral part. Enjoy a paella cooking experience and remember to wash down your creations with a chilled glass of Agua de Valencia, a delicious mix of orange juice, cava, gin and vodka. While here why not take a trip out to Xativa Castle, a twin fortress whose corridors Hannibal once stalked. Perched precariously on a rocky outcrop, the views are phenomenal and the building utterly fascinating.

Huelva, Spain

Arrive 0800. Depart 1700.

Huelva, on the south-west corner of Andalucia, is your next port of call. Levelled in 1755 by an earthquake, the city was reborn on the success of the British Rio Tinto mining company. Its influence on the town is evident in the Bario Reina Victoria, with its rows of mock-Tudor semis that wouldnt look out of place in a garden city in Britain. From here you can visit the pilgrimage town of El Rocio to take a horse-drawn carriage ride and learn about Andalucian folklore, before heading out to Donaa National Park to look for wildlife.

La Corua, Spain

Arrive 0800. Depart 1700.

Visit the port town of La Corua, in Galicia. The town has something for everyone, from pristine beaches and quirky shopping in the Orzan district to the monumental modernist architecture of the Museo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologia and a working Roman lighthouse. From the top of the Torre de Hrcules you have incredible views over the city and can work out a route to the old town where you can explore the narrow 12th-century cobbled streets.
