Let the adventure begin. After breakfast travel to Lake Louise – a glittering Christmas cake landscape that is covered with snow for five months of the year. Enjoy a tour of the town, and make a stop to have lunch wherever the fancy takes you. Later, pull-on your walking boots and set off on a guided walk around Johnson Lake, so beautiful it’s like Narnia in winter. Spend two nights at the luxurious Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise (4Q). B

Lake Louise

Most of the day is free for you to explore the area as you please, but make the most of the opportunity to join a guided snowshoeing excursion where you’ll learn to walk on the snow. Snowshoeing is now considered to be a winter sport, it’s easy to learn and you’ll practice in an area with virtually no elevation. Wrap up warm and get out and enjoy the snow. Snowtubing anyone? B

Day 4
Lake Louise-Jasper

Jasper National Park

Today you are free to explore. Why not take a walk on the wild side in Jasper National Park, the scenery is breathtaking at the best of times, but with it’s white winter coat it is an absolute feast for the eyes. There’s a multitude of winter sports activities, from the strenuous to the gentle. You can poke around in the stores, or settle down to watch the skiers and the skaters with a hot chocolate or a glass of local ale from the Jasper Brewing Company. This evening you can join an optional excursion to the Jasper Planetarium to go stargazing in one of the world’s largest dark sky preserves. If you are lucky, Aurora borealis might put in an appearance. B

Day 6

Follow the scenic Icefields Parkway to the resort town of Banff, through forested river valleys and past a prominence of towering peaks. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife – travellers sometimes spot bighorn sheep, mountain goats, moose, elk, caribou or wolves. Spend three nights at the Banff Park Lodge (4Q). Tonight you’ll enjoy a visit to Banff Hot Springs to take a dip in the waters under the night sky. Relax and unwind in these natural hot springs. B
