The best way to see Boston is with a walk along the freedom trail, a four-kilometre path through the downtown area of the city and linking 16 historic sights associated with the American Revolution, including the Bunker Hill Monument and the Old North Church.

Visit the Old Port district of the city for a taste of the 19th century. Stroll the cobbled streets in search of boutiques, cafes and restaurants.

This town is surrounded by Acadia National Park so expect plenty of rugged coastal scenery. Make sure you try the lobster too caught locally and in abundance, it can be served traditionally with garlic and herb butter, or with a heap of macaroni cheese.

Disembark after breakfast and enjoy an included tour of Baltimore. This city was where theStar Spangled Bannerwas written, was once home to Edgar Allen Poe, and provided the setting for the 1988 musicalHairsprayand its 2007 remake. Pay a visit to the Inner Harbour, which is home to a number of historic ships, including the last Civil War-era vessel still afloat and the Taney, which is the last surviving ship that fought in the attack on Pearl Harbour. Transfer to Washington, DC airport for your return overnight flight to the UK.
