Explore the USA during the 2017 total solar eclipse
2017 is going to be a spectacular year for anyone interested in unusual planetary activity. A total solar eclipse will be visible across a large part of the USA for the first time since 1979. When this occurs, which is rarely, the alignment of the moon and the sun will cause the moon to temporarily block out the light of the sun. Complete darkness will descend in the middle of the day. Its a sight you’ll remember forever!
You will be able to observe stars twinkling in the midday sky, as well as a beautiful halo of light around the moon. This is made all the more surreal, by the fact that moments earlier you were basking in bright sunlight. From whichever area you observe it, totality will last for just a few minutes, but the memory of this amazing phenomenon will stay with you for a lifetime.
Few people are lucky enough to witness a total solar eclipse during their lives, but if you’re prepared to spend a week or two on one of our luxury, all inclusive tours or packages, you’re guaranteed a prime viewing spot of the greatest show on Earth.
A partial eclipse will be visible across enormous areas of the USA, but in order to stay close to the line of totality, you’ll need to start thinking about booking soon. Planning your 2017 total solar eclipse tour
Partial eclipses occur all over the world, all the time, but watching your view get completely dark, instead of just a bit grey is so much more impressive, as is the sight of the sun being blocked out entirely. That’s why, if you’d like to experience the eclipse properly, you’ll need to make sure you’re correctly located. On the 21st August 2017, the Eclipse will be visible in the following places at the following times.
- Salem, Oregon at 10.19am
- Lincoln, Nebraska at 1.05pm
- Nashville, Tennessee at 1.30pm
- Columbia, South Carolina at 2.44pm
Our team will be able to advise you of the full list of destinations and times. So what do you need to consider if you plan to chase the eclipse? For a start, youll need to bear in mind that you won’t be the only one trying to get to a good location to view it. This is a major world event; one which will attract the attention of many and will cause plenty of traffic, both on the roads and the pavements. Booking a hotel close to the action, will give you a head start.
Another thing to remember is that although you can predict an eclipse – we know exactly when and where the world’s next total solar eclipses will be visible – you cant predict the weather. Many of those who saw the total eclipse in Cornwall, in 1999, were disappointed to have their view of the stars obscured by cloud cover. The sky went dark, as dark as night, which was incredible in itself, but it wasn’t possible to see the stars, or the actual eclipse. The fact that 2017’s total eclipse will be taking place in the summer, however, provides a better chance of clear skies.
As it’s dangerous to look at the eclipse with the naked eye, you’ll need some viewing equipment, so make sure you’re prepared and take it with you to the location. How annoying would it be to beat the crowd to edge of the canyon, with nobody blocking your view, only to discover you don’t have the tools you need to look into the sky!
