Fly to Pula and transfer via the Istrian Peninsula to Portoroz. You stay three nights at the locally rated 4-star Hotel Riviera (4Q) on a half-board basis. The 176-bedroom hotel is set on the promenade opposite the beach.
This morning, join an included walking tour around Portoroz, the ‘Port of Roses’. Afterwards, cruise along the coast to Piran, a beautiful Venetian-influenced resort for a walking tour.
An optional half-day excursion visits Trieste and Miramare Castle. In the afternoon you can join an optional excursion to Postojna Caves.
Trieste and Miramare Castle |Half day
Visit Trieste, an Italian port with a grand canal and piazza modelled on St Mark’s in Venice, located close to the Slovenian border. You’ll also visit the flamboyant 19th-century Miramare Castle, built on a promontory overlooking the Gulf of Trieste.
Postojna Caves |Half day
Visit Postojna Caves, carved out by the River Pivka and considered one of one of the world’s most beautiful cave systems. An electric train takes you into the caves, and a guide then leads you through the stalactites and stalagmites.
After breakfast, you travel along the coast road towards Porec in Croatia, where you’ll stay for four nights on a half-board basis at the locally rated 4-star Valamar Diamant Hotel (4Q). A short stroll from the hotel, through a pine forest, is the Blue Flag beach of Brulo and Porec’s old town. Facilities at the 244-room hotel include a buffet-style restaurant, three bars, indoor and outdoor pools, a wellness centre with a jacuzzi and sauna, a beauty and health centre, and various sports facilities, including tennis.
This afternoon, board your coach for Porec and an included walking tour. Porec is a former Roman colony filled with historic sites. Admire UNESCO-listed Euphrasius’ basilica, named after the bishop who had it lavishly decorated with mosaics both inside and out in the mid-6th century. It’s now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Rural Istria |Half day
Discover rural Istria – the largest of Croatia’s peninsulas – as you travel past vineyards, olive groves and medieval villages, with a stop for an included lunch.
A full-day included tour visits Pula and continues to Rovinj. At Pula you’ll see influences of 3000 years of history, including its well-preserved Roman amphitheatre which could accommodate 25,000 spectators for gladiatorial combat. Now it hosts alfresco concerts! After free time for lunch (at own cost) continue to Rovinj, a picturesque medieval old town on a peninsula that was an island until the Romans joined it to the mainland.
