Experience the romance of tall-ship sailing on the beautiful Royal Clipper. Spend a few nights in Rome before you set sail around the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea, visiting the unspoilt Pontine Islands, the Neapolitan Riviera, stunning Sicily and the UNESCO-listed volcanic Aeolian Islands for a sail past the active volcano of Isola Strómboli.
Pontine Islands The ship will dock in the largest of the Pontine islands – Ponza. You’ll visit the busy harbour of Ponza Town where pastel coloured houses rise up the hillside from the water. Later anchor off the island of Palmarola, a small rugged island that sits off the west coast of Italy in the Tyrrhenian Sea. Experience the beauty of the coast, its bays, cliffs and natural caves.
Sorrento and Amalfi This fantastic itinerary includes a visit to the beautiful cliff-top town of Sorrento which has a delightful old town which is criss-crossed by winding medieval lanes. The next stop is Amalfi, the main settlement on the UNESCO World Heritage Amalfi Coast. Wander through the ascending and winding medieval streets and alleys, enjoy views over the Gulf of Salerno and perhaps visit one of the towns public beaches.
Taormina, Sicily After sailing through the strait of Mesisina you will anchor off the beach resort of Taormina. Perched at the foot of the active volcano Mount Etna, this small town, which was once one of the stops on the 18th and 19th Century Grand Tour, is one of the most popular destinations on the island of Sicily.
Aeolian Islands The UNESCO-listed Aeolian Islands are located in the Tyrrhenian Sea, just off the north coast of Sicily. Stop in Lipari to witness its medieval castle, its narrow, climbing streets and secluded beaches and later sail past Isola Strómboli, an active volcano where lava flows 925 metres down from the peak to the sea.
