Santiago occupies a wonderful setting beneath the Andes and after we have transferred you to your hotel, you will be free to relax and explore at leisure. This evening well get to know one another better over a welcome dinner.

DAY 3 SANTIAGO PUNTA ARENAS

Early this morning well fly to Punta Arenas, where one of the Hurtigruten fleet of ships, the hybrid-powered MS Roald Amundsen, is waiting to take you on your expedition cruise to Antarctica.

DAY 4 BEAGLE CHANNEL

Our thrilling voyage begins as we cruise the scenic Beagle Channel. Surrounded by mountains that plunge straight into the icy water, this wild and remote area seems to be virtually untouched by human activity. Here, in one of the worlds most beautiful landscapes, you can admire isolated islands and hidden bays, and look out for an array of magnificent wildlife.

DAYS 5 & 6 CAPE HORN & THE DRAKE PASSAGE

Cape Horn is the southernmost point of South America, and if weather conditions allow, the Captain will do his best to make a landing here. Heading ashore to explore this deserted piece of land at the end of the world is a truly unique opportunity.

Our route then takes us through the famous Drake Passage, a deep waterway connecting the Atlantic and Pacific, which was notorious among the early polar explorers and offers us a voyage few people get to experience. As we cruise, the Expedition Team in the state-of-the-art Science Center will deliver fascinating lectures, and you can make the most of the onboard facilities which include an elegant lounge, a gym and wellness centre. We should arrive at the Antarctic Peninsula on day 7.

DAYS 7 13 ANTARCTICA

Our Antarctic expedition now begins in earnest as we spend the next seven days exploring this awe-inspiring continent.

Isolated from the rest of the world by ocean currents, Antarctica contains more than 90 per cent of all the ice on the planet, and at times it can be more than 4,000 metres thick. The only human habitation is in the various scientific research stations, and vegetation is restricted to mosses, lichen and algae. However, the wildlife is prolific with millions of penguins, whales and seals coming here to feed on fish and krill, and to breed. Our route will be dictated to an extent by weather conditions and well attempt to land on several sites so that you can step ashore for some exciting activities. We follow very strict environmental guidelines to ensure we leave nothing but footprints and take nothing but pictures!

DAY 14 AT SEA, ANTARCTICA FALKLAND ISLANDS

Enjoy the facilities on board the ship as we spend the day at sea heading to the Falkland Islands. This archipelago comprises East Falkland, West Falkland and more than 700 smaller islands, and is home to diverse wildlife including king penguins and albatross.

DAYS 15 17 FALKLAND ISLANDS

On day 15 we reach Stanley, the capital of the archipelago, located on East Falkland. This seaside town is dotted with colourfully painted houses and boasts red phone boxes, old pubs and a picturesque natural harbour. The ship will dock here for the day and as everything is centred around the port, its an easy place to discover on foot.

Well spend the next two days exploring the archipelago. Our itinerary will evolve as we go and will hopefully include the chance to enjoy hikes and see remote family-owned farms. Well take in the beautiful scenery of white-sand beaches and rocky clifftops, and if luck is on our side, discover Magellanic and gentoo penguins.

DAY 18 AT SEA, THE MAGELLAN STRAIT

As we make our way back to Punta Arenas through the Magellan Strait, theres plenty of time to enjoy further onboard lectures in the Science Center and look out for more wildlife on deck.
