Set on the beautiful southern coast of Brittany, Lorient developed as a fishing port and naval base after the establishment of the French East India Company in the 17th century. Almost entirely destroyed during WWII, todays rebuilt city is awash with post 1950’s architecture, which you can learn more about on anincluded tour.Lorient has a number of museums which reflect Brittanys seafaring past and present to explore, including a vast former German submarine base.

Alternatively, you could visit the nearby medieval town of Josselin and its incredible chteau, complete with delightful manicured gardens. Dont miss the chance to sample the regions abundance of seafood, from the traditional moules marinires to entire shellfish platters!

Perhaps discover the oyster farms of Aber Benoit on a gastronomic experience, stroll the stunning 11 acres of gardens at Daoulas Abbey, or take in the views from Frances first urban cable car which links the banks of the Penfeld River. From Brest you can also explore the regions dramatic coastline sheltered beaches, sparse heathland and dramatic cliffs.

Cruise to St Peter Port, Guernseys pretty capital where you explore delightful higgledy-piggledy lanes through a captivating blend of architectural styles and tiered gardens. Here, you can enjoy British culture with a French flair or visit the islands many bunkers that shed light on the islands turbulent occupation by the Germans during World War II. Take a look at the town church, which was completed in 1466, and wander up hill to Candie Gardens for fine views over the ocean.

Before heading back to the ship, why not seek out locally made souvenirs from the array attractive shops and boutiques strung out along the cobbled streets.
