Itinerary

Day 1 | ISTANBUL

Fly to Istanbul and transfer to the hotel for an overnight stay. (D)

Day 2 | ISTANBUL

Enjoy a full day sightseeing in Istanbul. Visit the renowned Sultanahmet Mosque (The Blue Mosque) an incredibly beautiful mosque of worship known for its blue Iznk (Nicaean) tiles and six minarets. Continue to the Hippodrome, once the vast arena that functioned as the heart of sporting (chariots races and athletics) events and political activities of the old city, and stop at Hagia Sophia, the Church of Divine Wisdom which is ranked as one of the greatest marvels of world architecture. Just a short walk across the square the Underground Cistern can be found. This is the largest of the many underground cisterns built during the Byzantine Empire to supply the city with water. This cistern is especially fascinating because the Byzantine builders recycled many stone structures of capital heads and columns that had been used in earlier temples. After lunch visit Topkapi Palace to tour the imperial treasury, Chinese porcelain section, calligraphy section and visit the Grand Bazaar, the vast and legendary covered market that is the biggest souk in the world with nearly 4000 shops of antiques, jewellery, and carpets. Overnight in the hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 3 | ISTANBUL TO CAPPADOCIA

Visit the Egyptian Spice Market in Istanbul – an arched complex of shops that have long and traditionally specialised in spices, herbs, vegetables, and fruits before travelling to Topkapi Palace. This visit to the imperial palace of the Ottoman Sultans will include tours of the imperial treasury, the Chinese porcelain section, the calligraphy section and many more. An optional visit to the Jewellery Collection segment of the palace is also included. After lunch transfer to Istanbul airport for the domestic flight to Kayseri. (B,L,D)

Day 4 | CAPPADOCIA

Explore the famous and intriguing valley of Cappadocia, a unique region where wind and water erosion of the area’s volcanic tuff has created an incredibly strange and colorful world of cones, columns and needles. Discover troglodyte cave-cities, rock-cut Byzantine castles and thousand-year-old cave churches. Many early Christians painted the walls of chapels with renditions of Bible stories. Some of these frescoes are incredibly beautiful, attesting to the skills and religious fervor of the faithful. Visit the palaces of Goreme, Uchisar, Kaymakli, Pasabey and Avanos. There may be an opportunity to purchase some of the hand-turned pottery that has been shaped here for millennia. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in the hotel in Cappadocia. (B,L,D)
