Vienna to Dürnstein
Enjoy the morning in Vienna before embarking Filia Rheni ll. Cruise the Danube to Dürnstein, with a welcome reception and dinner on board tonight, together with music from your host.
Dürnstein to Melk
Explore Dürnstein this morning, then set sail to Melk, arriving early afternoon. Explore independently or visit the Benedictine abbey on an optional excursion. Later in the afternoon depart Melk and sail via Ybbs overnight to Passau. Look forward to more on-board music this evening.
Melk Abbey | Two-and-a-half hours
Set in a beautiful position on a promontory overlooking the Danube River, the wonderfully ornate Melk Abbey is a masterpiece of high baroque architecture. Formerly the site of a castle given to Benedictine monks by Leopold III von Babenberg in the 11th century, work on the present monastery began in 1702 to the plans of Jakob Prandtauer. The exterior is an imposing and majestic sight with symmetrical towers and a large octagonal dome, while the interior is lavishly decorated and contains innumerable artistic treasures. After visiting the abbey you can enjoy some free time in the beautiful garden, before returning to the ship.
Passau to Linz
Arrive in Passau this morning and enjoy a walking tour. Depart from Passau after lunch and sail to Linz, arriving after dinner.
This morning an included visit takes you to Ansfelden, the birthplace of the composer Anton Bruckner, to visit the Bruckner Museum. Returning to your ship, sail this afternoon for Bratislava, enjoying a Hungarian-themed concert from your host this evening.
Arrive in Bratislava where you can explore the old town and early Cathedral. This evening look forward to a classical recital from your host as you sail overnight for Esztergom.
Esztergom to Budapest
Esztergom is home to Hungary’s largest basilica. Perhaps join an optional excursion to the Szentendre artistic community before departing at lunchtime for Budapest.

Begin your trip with a guided tour of the historic city of Esztergom, seat of the Archbishop and former residence of the Hungarian kings. It’s the site of many splendid buildings, crowning them is the vast domed basilica. The largest cathedral in Hungary, it houses many beautiful frescos, sparkling ecclesiastic treasures and an elaborate red marble chapel. Later visit the charming artists’ village of Szentendre, where the cobbled streets brim with fine galleries and museums – including one dedicated to Hungary’s celebrated ceramics artist, Margit Kovács. Occasionally this tour operates in reverse.
Spend today and overnight moored in Budapest. An included city tour this morning reveals the highlights, followed by a concert performance this evening.
