UK to Budapest
Fly to Budapest where you embark Regina Rheni II. Enjoy a welcome drink and dinner on board. The ship sets sail later this evening.
Today you arrive in Mohcs and have a full day to explore this port in the Pannonia region, which is home to some of Hungarys most exciting folk traditions.
Novi Sad and Belgrade
Spend the morning in Novi Sad, which boasts a fine selection of 18th and 19th-century buildings. You then sail to Serbia’s capital, Belgrade, where you moor overnight.
You’ll have a full day to explore one of Europe’s oldest cities. Chief attractions include the National Museum, parliament buildings and St Sava Cathedral, one of the world’s largest orthodox churches. Perhaps join an optional city tour.
The Iron Gates
Cruise along a particularly scenic stretch of the river, as the Danube passes through the southern stretch of the dramatic Carpathian mountains and the foothills of the Balkans to the Iron Gates, a gorge framed by sheer cliffs. The passage was infamous in ancient times as the water level was much lower, making navigation treacherous.
Svistov to Rousse
Explore the small town of Svistov this morning before continuing on to Rousse once the site of the Roman Empire’s Danube fleet where you spend the afternoon.
Spend the morning cruising to Tulcea, which was founded in the 7th century BC by the ancient Dacians and has fallen under the Byzantine, Genoese and Ottoman flags. Spend the afternoon exploring and perhaps visit the Danube Delta Museum.
Tulcea to Danube Delta to Tulcea
Sail through the stunning Danube Delta today, a wetland biosphere rich in wildlife. The reed beds and groves of willow, oak and poplar provide sanctuary for over 300 species of bird! You’ll also have the chance to leave your ship and board a smaller boat and take a closer look at this rich natural habitat. Sail back to Tulcea where you remain moored overnight.
Tulcea to Bucharest via Constanta
Disembark your ship after breakfast today and transfer to Bucharest. En route enjoy an included excursion to vibrant Constanta, an ancient metropolis on the Black Sea coast. Its said to be Romania’s longest continually inhabited city as well as its chief port, and you’ll be able to see the fascinating Archaeological Museum, the Turkish Mosque with its 155-foot-tall minaret, and the St Peter and St Paul Orthodox Cathedral. Continue to Bucharest, popular with the jet set and known as Little Paris in the 1900s, for an overnight stay at the locally rated 5-star Radisson Blu Hotel Bucharest (5Q).
