OverviewWelcome to the wild, wild West Country, home to a kaleidoscope of coastal scenes, charming villages and sprawling national parks. Our Totnes hotel makes the perfect base for relaxation and exploration of the area. Youll discover noble Powderham Castle, the striking 12th century cathedral of Exeter, and Buckfast Abbey, whilst the scenery comes alive on a coastal coach tour, a River Exe cream tea cruise and a journey across the moors on the South Devon Railway. ItineraryDay 1 TotnesTitans VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to the outskirts of Totnes. We aim for you to arrive at the hotel between 4pm and 5pm, where youll be welcomed with tea and coffee. The remainder of the day is free to settle in. Day 2 Powderham CastlePowderham Castle is filled with majestic rooms and secret doors, which tell 600 years of stories of the Courtenay family, the Earls of Devon, and their staff. Spend time hearing the tales and exploring the acres of deer park before we take a coastal tour by coach, which includes the traditional Victorian seaside town of Torquay and old fishing town of Brixham. Day 3 ExeterAn insightful guided tour reveals notable features of Exeters crown jewel, the stunning cathedral. It includes beautifully detailed stained-glass windows, striking 12th-century towers, the longest stretch of attached Gothic vaulting in England, and an exquisite astronomical clock. You have some free time in the city before we board a boat for a cruise on the River Exe. Enjoy afternoon tea as you take in beautiful sights and hopefully some wildlife – several seals come here to feed. Day 4 Dartmoor National Park – Buckfast Abbey – South Devon RailwayToday we travel by coach to the gorgeous tor-topped hills and heathered moorland of Dartmoor National Park. Well make stops at scenic towns and villages allowing you time to take photos of the beautiful scenery. Spend time at Buckfast Abbey, a tranquil refuge founded in 1018, restored and used as a working monastery today. The Monastic Shop has an extraordinary array of products made by nuns and monks across Europe, while the garden offers calmness with the scent of lavender on the breeze. Then, in Buckfastleigh, we head to the South Devon Railway, the longest established steam railway in the south west, to travel in vintage carriages through scenic valleys and farmland, to Totnes Littlehempston and back. Day 5 TotnesThis morning we bid farewell to Devon. Youll be collected at 10am by your Titan vehicle, for the journey home. |
