Itinerary

Eurostar

Days 1-2

To Cologne and Vienna

Your journey begins as you board the Eurostar at St Pancras for
a relaxing journey to Brussels. Here you change trains and join the
high-speed train to Cologne, where you spend the night at the
4-star Wyndham Cologne. Leaving Cologne behind on Day 2, you
continue to Austria’s Baroque capital – Vienna. A city of opulence
and grandeur, Vienna is filled with stunning palaces and
magnificent buildings, including the Opera House, Town Hall, the
Hofburg Palace, and the imposing Gothic cathedral.

Vienna

Day 3

Exploring Vienna

Vienna is remarkably unspoilt throughout, and the Old Town in
particular remains so exquisite and unchanged that it is easy to
imagine how the nobility of bygone eras would have experienced
Vienna. A stroll around the city will reveal delights at every turn
but if you prefer you can take a guided tour to view Vienna’s most
famous landmarks, including Schnbrunn Palace, with its charming
exterior and vast manicured gardens. For panoramic views over
Vienna, take a ride on the giant Ferris Wheel or take the Metro
across the river to the imposing Danube Tower. A lift whisks you up
to the observation deck, and a restaurant and caf are both
available at the top.

The Alps

Day 4

Through the Alps to Salzburg

Today you leave Vienna behind and embark on a scenic journey
through majestic Austria by rail. Moments after the train pulls
away from Vienna, you will be struck with spellbinding scenery.
You’ll follow the route of the Semmering Railway – a UNESCO world
heritage site, passing plunging valleys and colourful meadows
before continuing to Villach. It is here that you change trains and
head north through the breathtaking Alps to Salzburg.

Salzburg 2

Day 5

Exploring Salzburg

Although a relatively small city, Salzburg will leave you spoilt
for choice. An excellent starting point is its brooding Gothic
fortress, set on a rocky plateau above the city, which can be
reached by funicular railway. As well as offering impressive views
over Salzburg, the Fortress Museum tells the long history from when
it was first built in 1077. Of course, as the birthplace of Mozart,
there are various testaments to the renowned composer throughout
the city. Highlights include the Getreidegasse which is fabled as
being his childhood home, and is lined with quaint independent
shops, some of which are dedicated to the composer.

Innsbruck

Days 6-7

Innsbruck

Today board a regional train for an enchanting journey west to
Innsbruck, the capital and heart of the Tyrol, where you spend two
nights at the central 4-star Hotel Grauer Br. On Day 7 visit some
of the city’s noted landmarks including The Golden Roof and the
Gothic Court Church, which houses the empty tomb of Emperor
Maximilian I, closely guarded by 28 bronze statues, including one
of King Arthur.

TGV

Day 8

Homeward Bound

Your journey home begins by travelling to Zurich where you will
connect with a high-speed TGV to Paris Gare de Lyon. You cross the
city to the Gare du Nord, where you board your Eurostar back to
London.
