ItineraryDay 1 UK – BudapestTitans door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Budapest. On arrival, we embark our ship. Day 2 BudapestA tour of the two-sided city of Buda and Pest is first on the agenda this morning. We explore the Parliament building, St Stephens Basilica, the worlds second-largest synagogue and the Palace district before youre free to discover the city for yourself. Perhaps wander through the gates leading to the beautiful Vajdahunyad castle for a picturesque walk. Day 3 Kalocsa – MohcsOur morning starts in the Hungarian town of Kalocsa, known as the paprika capital of the world. Perhaps join our optional excursion, which gives a fascinating insight into the traditional Hungarian way of life. We start with a visit to the Folk Art House before learning all about regional spice at the Paprika Museum – including a taste of typical Hungarian cuisine. Later on, we enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride followed by a performance of Hungarian horsemanship – a fascinating experience. Day 4 BelgradeWe arrive in Belgrade this afternoon; and while remaining in dock until tomorrow evening, we have plenty of time to discover the White City. On our included walking tour on day 5, we unfold the citys chaotic past as we learn about the legacies of Habsburg, Ottoman and Socialist rule. We also take in the Republic Square, Saint Sava Cathedral and Kalemegdan Fortress. In your spare time, perhaps wander along the lively pedestrian boulevard flanked by historical buildings. Day 5 Cruising the Iron GatesToday is dedicated to scenic cruising as we glide through the famous Iron Gates. This spectacular passage is made up of narrow gorges and wide basins. Make full use of the ships panoramic restaurant or sundeck to get the best views. Day 6 VidinResting on the bend of the Danube, Vidin offers beautiful riverside views. We start with a city tour this morning, taking in the legendary Belogradchik Rocks – a vast area of huge sandstone formations varying from red to yellow. The sprawling town square is dominated by an enormous communist-era monument. Day 7 RousseOne of Bulgarias most elegant cities, Rousse is full to the brim with interesting architecture, leafy squares and city museums. Perhaps choose to join us on our optional city tour, which will introduce you to the ruined fortress – a Neolithic settlement turned into a Roman naval centre. Day 8 TulceaWe arrive in Romania this morning as we dock in Tulcea. The city itself is home to some great museums and a 19th-century church, but were using it as a base to explore the famed Danube Delta. Our included excursion will see us bob along through forests with a local guide looking out for birds and wildlife. During the summer, 350 species of bird gather here, so its a real must for twitchers. Day 9 Cernavoda (Constanta)We reach the Romanian shores of the Black Sea to discover Constanta, a lively city with beaches, parks and lakes. You can join us on an optional city tour this morning, or explore under your own steam. The richly decorated Orthodox Cathedral of St Peter and Paul is particularly interesting. For spectacular views over the port, the beautiful casino is your best bet. |
