Itineraries- Day 1 UK – Pisa
- Fly to Pisa today. Meet your fellow travellers over a drink and dinner.
- Day 2 Via Francigena – San Gimignano
- Walk 9km/5.6mi – 2.5hrs Our walk today follows part of the ViaFrancigena, an ancient route between Rome and Canterbury.We’ll make our way through vineyards, olive groves and over rolling hills to the lovely Tuscan town of San Gimignano. In medieval times, as many as 72 towers are thought to have graced the town’s skyline, when prosperous families competed to build the tallest as a symbol of their stature and wealth. Today, 14 of these towers still stand and the town is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Day 3 Casino Di Terra – at Leisure
- Today is free for you to enjoy as you wish or alternatively we offer an optional excursion to Lucca, a medieval fortified town. Here, we’ll walk along the impressive walls and admire fabulous views of the town’ssurroundings.
- Day 4 Volterra
- Walk 9km/5.6mi – 3hrsToday we will walk to the Balze in Volterra and take in views of these spectacular cliffs, created by soil erosion.After the walk, there will be time for you to explore the charming town of Volterra at your own pace. You could choose to visit the Etruscan Museum and discover more about the town’s history, or maybe you’d prefer to watch an alabaster craftsman at work.
- Day 5 Monteriggioni
- Walk 9km/5.6mi – 3hrsToday we’ll walk from Colle Bassa to the medieval town of Monteriggioni, where we’ll indulge in a tasting of wines, which will be paired with local delicacies such as salami, truffles and focaccia. Our wine-tasting is done in excellent company, with a professional sommelier who will tell us all about the organic Tenuta di Montechiaro wines we’ll sample.
- Day 6 Casino Di Terra – at Leisure
- Walk 9km/5.6mi – 3hrsYou can enjoy a day at leisure exploring at your own pace or enjoying your hotel, which is surrounded by five acres of parkland and boasts a swimming pool and spa.
Alternatively, you may choose to join an optional excursion to the picturesque hamlet of Montecatini Val di Cecina, which is nestled in the heart of the Tuscan countryside. We’ll also visit the nearby Theatre of Silence, an open-air amphitheatre whose honorary president is the famous opera singer Andrea Bocelli. Once a year, the tenor performs here alongside other singers, and the rest of the time it remains silent, transformed into a lake. - Day 7 Tomboli Nature Reserve
- Walk 10km/6.2mi – 3 hrs
Today’s walk takes place in the Tomboli Nature Reserve, a beautiful forest stretching inland from the coast. Sand dunes blanketed by dense vegetation give way to junipers, holly oaks and pine trees as you move away from the sea. And don’t forget to keep a look out for wildlife, many species make their home in the forest, including foxes, porcupines and roe deer. - Day 8 Pisa – UK
