Overview

Discover why people from Yorkshire always say Grand on this 6-day tour based in the old Viking capital of York. Visit the awe-inspiring Minster, the mother church of the north of England, and have free time to explore the city at your own pace during which you can hide away in one of the many distinctive pubs or treat yourself to afternoon tea! Also included are excursions to visit the wild North York Moors National Park, historic Whitby and beautiful Robin Hoods Bay. Finally, delight in one of the most beautiful gardens in the country at Harlow Carr and spend time in the famous spa town of Harrogate.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in York

Check into your hotel with the rest of the day free to relax. Car parking fees are included. At 6 pm, meet your Tour Director and travelling companions for a welcome dinner at your hotel.

Day 2 York

Enjoy a day dedicated to York, Englands most complete medieval city. Visit YORK MINSTER, the largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe, then follow your Tour Director through a maze of quaint streets, including the narrow Shambles. The choice is yours for the rest of the day: you can visit one of an array of renowned museums or walk on the City Walls.

Day 3 North York Moors, Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay excursion

Drive over the heather-clad North York Moors National Park for your first stop of the day at the moorland village of Goathland where the popular TV seriesHeartbeatwas filmed. Next, the old whaling port of Whitby; home to the young Captain Cook, the gothic Abbey which was an inspiration for Bram StokersDracula,and of world-famous fish and chips! The final stop of the day is at the picturesque old fishing village of Robin Hoods Bay, which can only be accessed by walking down (and then back up!) a very steep hill. The village is more latterly known as the end of Alfred WainwrightsCoast to coastwalk.

Day 4 Harrogate excursion

Visit the gardens of RHS HARLOW CARR nestled in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. Harlow Carr offers a variety of growing landscapes, from running and still water, to woodland and wildflower meadows. Next, spend some time in the nearby elegant spa town of Harrogate before returning to York.
